EtonHouse International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme provides the learning philosophy for every stage of student development and progress throughout the school. It is the international education building block upon which students can construct meaning through collaborative learning and concept-driven inquiry.
Students are recognised as active participants in the learning process. Emphasis is placed upon first-hand practical experiences which engage students’ imagination and curiosity, fostering genuine understanding. Students are encouraged to plan and negotiate, to identify and solve problems, to take learning risks, to approach tasks from different perspectives and to develop a critical appreciation towards all aspects of their work.
As an authorised International Baccalaureate World School, EtonHouse International School Broadrick Road seeks to nurture in its students:
- ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship
- critical and compassionate thinking
- a sense of the universal values of shared humanity
- a respect for the variety of cultures and attitudes that make up the variety of life
- an understanding of community
- an active engagement in charitable projects
International Baccalaureate Units of Inquiry

Students in the 21st Century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world in which knowledge is constantly developing. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. The trans-disciplinary Units of Inquiry include five essential elements:
1. a focus on key concepts such as function, reflection and change
2. an exploration of relevant and important topics to build a body of knowledge of local and global significance
3. the acquisition of essential skills to conduct research, communicate effectively, respond to real-life challenges and think critically and creatively
4. the fostering of positive attitudes such as tolerance, respect and responsibility
5. an opportunity for meaningful action and social service
There are six trans-disciplinary themes within the IB PYP that identify inquiry learning considered to be essential, globally significant, common to all human experience and unifying for students world-wide. These universal themes provide the framework for all Units of Inquiry. These six trans-disciplinary themes are:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are in Time and Space
- How We Express Ourselves
- How the World Works
- How We Organize Ourselves
- How We Share the Planet
