Subjects Taught / Learning Features
The program at Mountbatten 764 is holistic and integrated as with all the branches. We are fortunate to have Heather Conroy, the senior Director of Pedagogy, working with our staff on a new approach to the curriculum where it is not only play based but child initiated.
A child initiated curriculum develops as a result of the teachers and assistants close observation of the children and what interests them. Opportunities for observation when the children are at work and play are a result of appropriate provisions of time, space and resource where the children interact with these elements and with each other as well as the teacher. Observations are documented through photographs, anecdotal records, running records etc and from here, the teacher and children plan the curriculum together. In this way, we work from the children's interests and strengths instead of dictating to them that they must do a particular them based on what WE feel we have to teach them. Ownership is evident when the children discuss, plan and execute the various projects and activities that they have initiated.
Other interesting activities include:
- Abacus
- Chinese Art
- Speech and Drama
- Dance
- Hindi Language Programme
