International School Curriculum

Stimulating and challenging learning programmes

The International School curriculum for Years 2 to 6 follows the inquiry learning philosophy of the International Baccalaureate. The Literacy and Numeracy strategies from the United Kingdom curriculum are also used as a learning framework.

The curriculum is trans-disciplinary (integrated across the subject areas) for greater relevance and immediacy of students’ learning.

This is in alignment with the teaching and learning philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

The subjects are grouped broadly into the following categories:

  • Literacy (English)
  • Numeracy (Mathematics)
  • Information and Communications Technology
  • Primary Years Programme – Units of Inquiry
  • Languages
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education

Primary students complete six trans-disciplinary Units of Inquiry over the duration of the school year. These inquiry units are grouped under the following six organizing themes:

  • Who We Are
  • Where We Are in Time and Space
  • How We Express Ourselves
  • How the World Works
  • How We Organize Ourselves
  • Sharing the Planet
